We scraped off a section of the flange joint and uncovered sheared off bolts showing that this sub was disassembled from the outside by cutting the sections at the flange joint. We also collected a sample for corrosion analysis from these scrapings.
This means that nobody climbed inside this sub to remove the bolts from the flange joints to disassemble this submarine. The sections were removed by cutting the bolts at the flange joints from the outside with a torch or saw.
We did not feel it was necessary to disturb the wreck further by scraping the flange joints on the bow or stern sections.
